Organ Media Foundation anniversaries
Organ Media Foundation marks the 23rd anniversary of Organlive.com, its flagship broadcasting project. Since its launch in August 2003, Organlive.com
has provided a continuous, listener-supported internet stream devoted to music of the classical organ, heard by listeners around the world with recordings by internationally known concert organists alongside performances by accomplished musicians whose work deserves a wider audience. Its growing library contains more than 35,000 tracks representing organs, performers, composers, builders, periods, and musical traditions from around the world.
This year, Organlive.com introduced a redesigned website with improved streaming capabilities and a new system for searching the library and requesting individual tracks. Listeners can browse recordings by title, composer, organist, and album, with additional search features planned for the future.
Visitors can view information about the work currently being played, its composer and performer, the recording from which it was taken, and, when available, information about the featured organ, and frequently links to free sheet music of the work. Organlive.com remains free to listeners, and users may request specific selections from the station’s library as well as rate the tracks they hear.
The foundation placed more emphasis on its mobile app in 2026, bringing an expanding collection of broadcasts and programs in one place. Listeners hear all three of the foundation’s continuous organ music stations: Organlive.com, Positively Baroque, and The Organ Experience. The seasonal Organlive Christmas stream is available through the app when it returns later this year.
Positively Baroque, which concentrates on organ music of the Baroque and Classical periods, recently received its own cleaner and more modern website. The Organ Experience complements the other stations by presenting extended, similarly themed programs of organ music, generally lasting from 30 minutes to two hours. The app also provides access to episodes of The King of Instruments, the podcast At the Organ, and the foundation’s collection of pipe organ tour videos hosted by Brent Johnson on YouTube.
September 2026 marks another anniversary for the foundation: three years since The King of Instruments returned to the airwaves in St. Louis. The hosted hour of organ music is broadcast weekly on Classic 107.3 FM and is available through the Global Community Radio stream. The program is distributed to additional stations through the Public Radio Exchange at PRX.org.
In addition to its broadcasting and video projects, the foundation is developing initiatives to digitize historically significant documents and make them accessible to the public. Current and future projects include materials from the archives of the Aeolian-Skinner, Kilgen, and Wicks organ companies. These efforts are intended to preserve records that might otherwise remain inaccessible while making them useful to musicians, scholars, organbuilders, historians, and the wider public.
