Jared Johnson to Washington National Cathedral

Jared Johnson

Jared Johnson is appointed director of music and canon-elect for Washington National Cathedral, Washington, D.C., effective summer 2026. He currently serves as canon director of music at Grace Episcopal Cathedral, San Francisco, California. In his new position, Johnson will oversee the cathedral’s music program, including direction of the Cathedral Choir, organ performances, and the broader liturgical and concert offerings.

A native of Ohio, Johnson holds degrees in English and organ performance from Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut. He previously served as canon organist and choirmaster at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia, South Carolina, where he founded choirs for boys and girls and established a music education program for underserved students. He has performed organ recitals internationally, recorded, toured, and served as a frequent guest conductor.
