May 6
Goulding & Wood Pipe Organ Builders, Indianapolis, Indiana, hosted an open house May 6 showcasing the refurbished and reconfigured pipe organ for the Monastery of the Our Lady of Grace, Beech Grove, Indiana. While the original 1981 pipework and windchests remained in good condition and were refurbished and reconfigured, a new console was designed and built to replace the original, which had become difficult to maintain due to unavailable parts and outdated wiring.
The project also features a newly designed façade, developed in collaboration with Browning Day Architects of Indianapolis. The organ will be installed in the new monastery chapel, where it will continue the Benedictine community’s tradition of sung liturgical prayer accompanied by the pipe organ.
The open house was attended by colleagues, families, and special guests, including Sr. Marie T. Racine, OSB, director of liturgy, and organist Theresa Morphew, who played the instrument during the event.
