THE DIAPASON

Philippe Lefebvre, organiste titulaire de Notre-Dame de Paris, was featured in April on the concluding concert of the 25th anniversary (1985 Taylor & Boody IV/70) chapel concert series at the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts. The concert was jointly sponsored by Holy Cross and the Worcester AGO chapter.

The program included repertoire and extended improvisations. For his opening selection, Lefebvre arranged for organ Bach’s Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue in d minor, BWV 903.

His improvisations included “Suite française in Classical French Style on a Gregorian Chant,” “Symphonic variations,” and finally a free improvisation. The structures of the improvisations were generally sketched, and Lefebvre was assisted by two registrants.
