Marilyn Mason retires

Marilyn Mason, the longest-serving faculty member in the University of Michigan's history, has retired.

Mason served as professor of organ, university organist, and former chair of the Department of Organ at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance.

An alumna of the University of Michigan, earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees in music, Mason joined the faculty while still a student in 1947.

In additional to her teaching, for which she received numerous awards, Mason leaves behind a significant and multi-faceted legacy, which includes the annual Conference on Organ Music (often reported on in THE DIAPASON), celebrating its 54th year in 2014, and the dozens of tours she led toexperience historic instruments in Europe. In 1985, the Marilyn Mason Organ was installed in a specifically designed recital hall in the university's Earl V. Moore Building.
