Norberto Guinaldo has retired as organist of Garden Grove United Methodist Church, Garden Grove, California, after 58 years of service. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1937, Guinaldo came to the United States in 1959, having studied organ in that city since the age of 16 with the Italian organist Hermes Forti. He holds a master’s degree in theory and composition from the University of California at Riverside. He also studied with Jean Langlais at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, France.

Goulding and Wood Pipe Organ Builders, Indianapolis, Indiana, has completed the installation of a three-manual pipe organ for the Cathedral of the Incarnation, Nashville, Tennessee. 

Opus 54 consists of 40 ranks across Great, Swell, Solo, and Pedal, and includes five sets of pipes retained from the previous 1920 Henry Pilcher’s Sons instrument. Twin stained red-oak façade cases flank the gallery stained glass window.

Michael Radulescu, 80, born June 19, 1943, in Bucharest, Romania, died December 23, 2023. He studied organ and conducting with Anton Heiller and Hans Swarowsky in Vienna, Austria, at the Academy (now University) of Music and Performing Arts, where he taught as professor of organ from 1968 to 2008. His career encompassed work as a composer, organist, and conductor. With his debut in 1959 he presented concerts throughout Europe, North America, Australia, South Korea, and Japan.

This improvisation was recorded on the recently restored Aeolian-Skinner Opus 948 at St. Mark's Church, Locust Street, Philadelphia, in the week before the Feast of Christ the King, so I had in mind the hymn tunes Coronation and Diademata, upon which it is based.

Charles Callahan died December 25, 2023. He was born on September 27, 1951, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and was well known as an award-winning composer, organist, choral conductor, pianist, and teacher—with over 300 works in print for organ, piano, chorus, solo voice, chamber ensemble and orchestra. He was a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. Additional study had been in England, France, Germany, and Belgium.
