CONCORA Seeks Artistic Director
CONCORA (Connecticut Choral Artists), Connecticut’s premiere professional chorus, is conducting a national search for a candidate to succeed Founding Artistic Director Richard M. Coffey, who will step down after the 2013-2014 season, CONCORA’s 40th season. The successful candidate will begin employment on July 1, 2015.
CONCORA presents masterful, critically-acclaimed performances of the world’s best choral music at venues in the Greater Hartford area, including an annual presentation of Bach’s choral music in collaboration with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. CONCORA is acknowledged as the region’s premier presenter of the most challenging choral repertoire, from Baroque masters to the best contemporary composers. CONCORA has a 60-voice roster of professional singers from which concert ensembles are selected. Well-established educational programs include an annual Summer Festival for amateur singers, and an in-school program to introduce young children to choral music. CONCORA will host its second Bach Festival in March, 2014.
Since its first review in 1984, CONCORA has received uniformly outstanding reviews from regional and national critics. The Hartford Courant, which calls CONCORA one of the region’s “most accomplished music ensembles,” also said: “CONCORA has delivered some sublime performances of [Bach’s] works over the years, and its annual Bach concert has become a Hartford tradition… [they sing with] seamless blend and rounded sound… There was more than enough brilliant virtuosity… smoothly sung.”
The Artistic Director position is part-time; though it requires involvement throughout the year, Hartford-area residency is not required. A Bach specialist is highly desirable, and orchestral conducting experience is a plus. Interested applicants should send an inquiry to [email protected] no later than August 31, 2013 to request detailed information about the application process and required documents. After an initial screening process, qualified candidates will be notified and invited to submit additional materials by Monday, September 30, 2013. No phone calls, please; direct all inquiries to [email protected]
