Iowa State Festival

Iowa State University presented a Spring Carillon Festival, April 28-30. In addition to several carillon recitals, the Festival featured the Iowa State University Dance Tour Company and the University Chorus. Gary White, ISU Professor Emeritus of Music, led a seminar on composition technique for the carillon.

Tin-shi Tam, ISU Carillonneur, hosted the Festival. Richard von Grabow and Richard Watson were guest carillonneurs. Von Grabow is Emeritus Carillonneur and Professor of Music History at Iowa State. Watson developed the plans for the redesign and renovation of the Stanton Memorial Carillon at Iowa State. Former and current ISU students also performed: Michiyo Hattori, Chris Nelson, and Rich Valde.

A carillon composition competition for composers under age 35 was held. The winner was Amy Michelle Black from Berea, Kentucky. Her composition, Tree Modes, was premiered by Dr. Tam during the Festival.
