The Diapason July 2013 Newsletter

July 22, 2013

Welcome to THE DIAPASON eNews.

This is my first issue as editorial director of THE DIAPASON, and I am delighted to present this wonderful journal and its online newsletter to you. Having worked with previous editor Jerome Butera for over a dozen years, I am looking forward to continuing in a slightly different role. Jerome will remain a colleague, albeit a long-distance one, as he continues as THE DIAPASON’s sales manager. And we both have a new colleague: Stephen Schnurr assists us as our editor-at-large. Stephen may be familiar to some of you from his publications and his work with the Organ Historical Society—we are pleased that he will be assisting us with our editorial tasks.

This month we bring you news of the St. Albans Festival, the death of Douglas Rafter, Portland, Maine’s former municipal organist, and of celebrations, CDs, and conferences. We also list the numerous organ recital series for you as you plan your summer travels. Among the other stories in this issue:  Stephen Tharp's 42nd world tour, Norberto Guinaldo celebrates 50 years at Temple Ner Tamid, Richard Garven celebrates 30 years at St. Clement's church, Steven Ball named to new position at Atlantic City's Bordwalk Hall, and more.

Our newsletter sponsor this month is Peragallo Pipe Organ Builders, whose installation at St. Malachy's—The Actors' Chapel, New York City is featured on the cover of the July issue of The Diapason. Clicking on the ads will take you to their website.

Send a free sample copy of THE DIAPASON to a student, colleague, or friend.  Just contact me by e-mail or phone, and I will send the current issue.
