Second Presbyterian Church, with a 150-year-old tradition of strong, vibrant congregations, announces an opening for part-time organist. The church is located in the heart of downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee, and its beautiful sanctuary has one of the best acoustical arenas in the city. The Möller organ, Steinway piano, and harpsichord offer the finest in performance and accompaniment sounds. Our liturgical worship is most often formal but we value variety and are looking for a musician who is comfortable with a multitude of styles.
JOB TITLE: Church Organist (part-time, 20 hrs.). Bachelor degree preferred.
MINISTRY: To provide music for Sunday worship and special services that is integral to the service focus.
FUNCTION:
1. Select and prepare music for all worship opportunities and special services. Select hymns for Sunday worship.
2. Accompany the chancel choir in worship and rehearsals.
3. Provide music for funerals; arrange for music at weddings in consultation with the pastor.
4. With the Director of Music, foster congregational singing and community outreach (via concerts, etc.).
5. Oversee maintenance of Möller organ, Steinway piano, harpsichord.
TERM: Serves at the direction of the Session
RELATES TO: Director of Music, Elder for Worship, Pastor
SUPERVISES: Special musicians and wedding organists (if requested)
SALARY: Commensurate with experience. Negotiable related to acceptance of other potential ministries (i.e., children’s choir, handbell choir, piano lessons). $26,000– $30,000
