Fruhauf Music Publications is offering an unusual excerpt from César Franck’s Sept Pièces for harmonium or organ. The first suite (in C-major and C-minor) presents seven movements edited and revised for organ: a cantabile Prelude; a sostenuto Andantino; a Poco lento; a declamatory Maestoso; an affetuoso Poco lento aria; a quasi-scherzetto movement, followed by a brief Amen; and an extended Offertoire. This collection will offer a less traveled but charming vignette, even when compared with the composer’s major organ works.
Also, in acknowledgement of Memorial Day, three excerpts from Johann Sebastian Bach’s compositions have been included that provide various treatments of chorale melodies and movements from cantatas.
