Mendelssohn’s Spinning Song

September 7, 2020

New from Michael's Music Service.

Piano students will recognize Mendelssohn’s Spinning Song. Harvey Gaul brings this well-known piano standard from "Songs Without Words" to the organ.

Harvey B. Gaul (1881–1945), student of Buck, Guilmant, and Widor, is best known for his prolific output of compositions and transcriptions. He was also known for his scholarly writing. Spinning Song is from “Songs Without Words,” op. 67, no. 4, and although it’s not often heard on the organ, Gaul’s arrangement of it makes a terrific fast, light encore. Moderate.
