Four Variations on Greensleeves (Fruhauf Music)

December 23, 2019

Four Variations on Greensleeves, for Carillon, Harp, or Keyboards, etc.

An English ballad dating from the 16th-century (and earlier), was first licensed in London as "A Newe Northen Dittye of ye Ladye Greene Sleves" in 1580. Within days the tune was refitted to a moralistically religious hymn text, but it was not until 1865 that William Chatterton Dix adopted the melody for a setting of his text, “What child is this”, which was subsequently included in Henry Ramsden Bramley and John Stainer’s Christmas Carols New and Old  (London, 1871).

A PDF booklet score and separate .WAV audio track (from Finale Garritan fonts) are both available for complimentary download, offered with seasonal Christmas and New Years greetings and best wishes from Fruhauf Music Publications, and to be found at: (see Home Page Bulletin Board for a link to Notes pages).
