CONCORA presents Modern Masters

September 16, 2013

CONCORA presents Modern Masters, a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Britten and the 90th birthday of Ned Rorem, October 6 at South Church, New Britain, Connecticut. The concert features works of these two masters of composition, both of whom have contributed significant works to the classical canon and the choral repertoire. Three of Britten’s dances from Gloriana and selections from Rorem’s Seven Motets for the Church Year will be featured on the program.

To complement the music of these two masters, CONCORA will perform works from other contemporary choral composers, including John Rutter, Eric Whitacre, Alice Parker, Kevin Siegfried, György Orbán, and Paul Mealor.

CONCORA, conducted by Richard Coffey, will be joined by organist and pianist Jason Roberts and violinist Leonid Sigal, concertmaster of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Sigal will play the solo violin part in Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love Songs.
