November 2014 Newsletter

November 22, 2014

We are already at the Thanksgiving holiday, which for church musicians means the busy schedule of Advent and Christmas is just ahead. See the listing of upcoming music events in this newsletter, and also the expansive calendar in the November and December issues of THE DIAPASON.

In this newsletter we note David Baskeyfield’s first prize in the Canadian International Organ Competition, Carol Williams’ concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, James Kibbie’s annual holiday recording, Larry Palmer’s 45th annual faculty recital, and news from organbuilders; and we mourn the passing of Stephen Paulus. To read the news stories below, click on the link in the headline highlighted in color—that takes you to the full text on our website. From there, you can also link to additional information about the story.

Our newsletter sponsor is Berghaus Pipe Organ Builders, whose new organ at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Chesapeake, Virginia, is featured on the cover of the November issue of THE DIAPASON. Clicking on their ads will take you to their website.

We again call your attention to the Midwinter Pipe Organ Conclave, January 18–19, 2015, in La Grange, Illinois, co-sponsored by THE DIAPASON, the Chicago and Fox Valley AGO chapters and the Chicago-Midwest chapter of the Organ Historical Society. The schedule will include recitals by David Schrader, Jonathan Rudy, and Scott Montgomery, lectures by Stephen Schnurr, Philip Kloeckner, and Karen Brunssen, and more. See the article on page 25 of the December issue of THE DIAPASON.

Make sure your friends and colleagues do not miss out on THE DIAPASON! Contact me and we’ll get a sample copy off to them.
