The Diapason May 2017 Newsletter

May 22, 2017

Memorial Day is just around the corner, and summer officially begins. For many of us, this is a time when the choir season or the academic year has ended or at least slackens to the point that we can enjoy our longer, warmer days. During the summer months, there are plenty of activities in which we can participate in the world of music. Our newsletter outlines many of these activities, including numerous summer organ recital series. Perhaps one of these programs features an organ you’ve wanted to see for some time now, yet have never been able to make the time to do so! Check out the Carillon Calendar in our upcoming June issue for an array of carillon recitals around the United States. Check your local newspaper for local outdoor concerts to enjoy with a blanket and picnic basket. Be sure to participate in an event regularly, as the success of these programs depends on our participation in the audience!

Consider attending a convention this summer, whether a regional convention of the American Guild of Organists (www.agohq.org), the national convention of the Organ Historical Society (www.organsociety.org), the congress of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (www.gcna.org), or any number of conventions geared towards musicians of various denominations or specific instruments. Many of these events were summarized with dates, locations, and contact information in our April issue.

This is the time of year for many graduation ceremonies. Do you have a friend or family member graduating who would benefit from a subscription to THE DIAPASON? Consider a gift subscription for a long-lasting remembrance that will benefit the graduate for years to come.

Our May newsletter sponsor is Létourneau Pipe Organs, whose Opus 129 is featured in our May issue. This organ was recently installed in the First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
