Organist wanted

July 7, 2015

West Side United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor, MI seeks to hire a part-time salaried organist. Applicants interested in this position must possess a commitment to supporting well-crafted worship experiences.

West Side United Methodist is a church steeped in a long tradition of sacred music beginning in its roots as Ann Arbor's German Methodist Church. With a repertoire founded on the works of Bach and Buxtehude, the church's musical offerings also embrace English cathedral anthems, masterpieces of the classical and romantic eras, and new works by living composers. A 30-voice adult choir sings weekly, bringing singers from Ann Arbor and Detroit together with artists and faculty from the University of Michigan.

The staff organist accompanies Wednesday evening choir rehearsals and plays for a single 10:30 am Sunday worship service. An annual salary of $10,000-$12,000 is commensurate with training and experience. Additional wedding and funeral engagements are available to supplement income. The beautiful M.P. Möller pipe organ is the primary instrument in the historic sanctuary.

The ideal candidate is an intuitive musician with a deep love for sacred music. The organist is entrusted with the graceful leadership of hymns and seamless accompaniment of the choir in anthems that move the hearts of the congregation.

Qualified applicants should submit résumés to Adam Begley, Director of Music Ministries ([email protected]) by August 15, 2015.
