Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC, is seeking a full-time Director of Music, who will contribute to the overall worship life of Covenant Presbyterian Church through leadership of its traditional music ministry. He/she will be responsible for our traditional music program, which includes vocal and hand bell choirs for children through adults. A bachelor’s degree in music is required. Additional post-graduate study in sacred music, choral conducting, and/or worship studies, and piano or organ skills are desirable. The Director of Music must have proven leadership skills in church music administration, a minimum of five years’ experience as a Director of Music, a collaborative approach to ministry, and excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to enhance the congregation’s worship experience through high quality music is essential. The Director of Music must be able to work effectively with volunteers and have strong pastoral, organizational and interpersonal skills. The director must have an appreciation for the value and role of other, non-traditional forms of musical expression in worship, and will work cooperatively with other musicians on staff.
Covenant Church is privileged to own an array of fine musical instruments, including three magnificent organs and a 48-bell carillon, and three full sets of Malmark hand bells and chimes. Our traditional choral program currently consists of five choirs with 55 adult singers and 93 children and youth (Preschool – 12th Grade), plus three bell choirs for youth and adults.
Covenant hosts four Sunday services: Traditional at 9:30 AM (chapel) and 11:00 AM (sanctuary); and Contemporary at 9:30 AM (sanctuary) and 11:00 AM (fellowship hall). The sanctuary services are streamed via the internet, enabling us to reach those who desire to experience worship but are unable to do so within our sanctuary.
