First Presbyterian Church of St. Petersburg, Florida has a rich tradition in worship, service and music. Currently, worship services include an 8:15 traditional communion service, 9:00 Contemporary Service and 11:00 Traditional Worship Service. The Director of Music shall be a creative, energetic and inspirational Christian music professional responsible for the direction and coordination of all music programs of the church.

The music ministry comprises: 
Chancel Choir 
Youth Choir 
Children’s Choir 
Bell Choir Praise Team Leader (Contemporary Worship) (Note: Will consider this position part-time if the Praise Team Leader for the Contemporary Worship is not included as a primary responsibility.)

First Presbyterian Church is located in the heart of a thriving downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. Our sanctuary is well known in the music world for its fine acoustics and first-rate musical instruments. Our organist is one of the finest and plays the 86-rank Reuter organ each Sunday. Our annual choir festival, in its 30th year, has been conducted by renowned conductors including Anton Armstrong, Sir David Willcocks and Hal Hopson.  In addition, our church has hosted choirs including St. Olaf College, Luther College, Alma College, The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay and more.

PURPOSE:  To support the mission of First Presbyterian Church by directing all components of the Music Ministry with an ongoing emphasis to grow and improve this ministry.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Christian faith and commitment to the mission of FPC; a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Music; extensive knowledge of sacred music, including diverse musical styles; familiarity with Presbyterian worship; proficiency in vocal training and conducting. In addition, charisma, energy and ability to work with people are key to maintaining and growing the music ministry at First Presbyterian Church.

POSITION:  Full-time 

ACCOUNTABILITY:   To the Pastor as Head-of-Staff and to the Worship and Music Committee of the Session. He/she is subject to the First Presbyterian Church Employee Handbook.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 
Maintain and further develop the Music Ministry using varieties of Christian choral and instrumental music of the highest quality of both classic and contemporary composers. 
Supervise the church organist, other paid musicians and volunteers involved in the Music Ministry. 
Plan, schedule, rehearse, and direct all music in keeping with the season of the church year for worship services and additional events during the year. 
Provide spiritual leadership to the Music Ministry at First Presbyterian Church. 
Recruit singers/musicians for choirs and ensembles. 
Recruit/contract and direct instrumentalists as needed for worship services and special events. 
Oversee the organization and maintenance of the music library and instruments of the church. 
Serve as a resource person for the Worship Committee. 
Provide information for the weekly worship bulletin in a timely manner. 
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH: Attend continuing education opportunities to hone skills and to keep current with changing musical trends in the life of the church.

RELATIONSHIPS:  Works with the Pastor as Head-of-Staff; serves as a colleague in ministry with all church staff; serves as a resource for the Worship Committee; and attends staff meetings.

COMPENSATION - The salary range is $49,842–$65,622  pending education/experience in accordance with guidelines set forth by the Presbyterian Association of Musicians.
