Director of Contemporary Praise Worship

DIRECTOR OF CONTEMPORARY PRAISE WORSHIP

PURPOSE:  To support the mission of First Presbyterian Church by providing musical and media leadership to FPC’s contemporary praise worship.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Minimum bachelor’s degree, preferably with major or emphasis in music.  Experience as a worship leader in contemporary praise worship; familiarity with contemporary praise music; experience in developing media to accompany worship; familiarity with Presbyterian worship; proficiency in keyboard, voice, arranging and directing. Interest in children and youth would be beneficial.

POSITION:  Part-time (approximately 13–15  hours per week).

ACCOUNTABILITY:  To the Director of Music, Pastor as head of staff, the Session, and to the FPC Employee Handbook.

REPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:  Planning and directing the contemporary praise worship at FPC, including: 
Serve as primary director and coordinator of FPC’s contemporary praise worship service. 
Plan for contemporary praise worship services, including selection of songs consistent with worship themes selected by pastors, with emphasis on music appropriate for congregational singing. 
Plan and prepare supporting media for worship service (usually to be projected onto screens). 
Serve as worship leader, vocalist and instrumentalist (preferably keyboard). 
Recruit and manage volunteer and paid musicians (vocalists and instrumentalists), and organize and participate in regular rehearsals. (2 or 3 per month). 
Develop and manage annual budget for contemporary praise worship in cooperation with Director of Music and Worship Committee. 
Oversee organization and maintenance of library of music used at contemporary praise service, including software, apps, and maintenance of licenses with publishers. 
Selection and maintenance of church-owned musical instruments and equipment used in contemporary praise service (speakers, amplifiers, mixers, microphones, etc.). 
Plan and lead occasional concerts of contemporary praise music. 
Evaluate and make recommendations for development and enhancement of contemporary praise worship programs to Worship Committee, Pastor and Session. 
Perform other duties and responsibilities for the contemporary praise worship ministry, as assigned by Pastor.

RELATIONSHIPS:  Works with Director of Music, Pastor as head of staff, serves resource to Worship Committee, attends staff and Session meetings as directed. Maintains mutually supporting relationships with volunteer musicians.
